Thread: LED Help?

    Default LED Help?

Any of the folks that have done their own LED's - I need advice or help. How do I tell what emitter and lenses I have? Also, how hard is it to replace them in a fixture?

I am sure that I have bottom of the bin parts as the led's are on a complete fixture made for my Finnex. I am looking for more POWAAHHH! (< power). Thanks

Changing emitter shouldn't be difficult, you just need to know what drivers you have(or less you change them). The only way I can think to determine the led's is by shape and the lens on the emitter itself.

I would guess the finnex is useing the 1w luxen emitters. The only thing to think about is displacing the extra heat going to 3w led's.

The fixture has active cooling for the t-5's so heat dissipation should be ok I think. The fixture also has 2 power settings for the led's - a soft moonlight and then a brighter setting. They are 1 watt emitters. I am scared to take it apart right off the bat since I just got the tank up and going - although if I am going to mess something up, now would be the best time.

I'm sure you would need new drivers, or you would be stuck only running 4 led's(Im not sure on that).

OK, where did you find your information on DIY led's? I have been trying to research on it on my own, but would like a shove in the right direction. Where to buy parts, pics on the actual steps, comparisons - stuff like that. Thanks for the replies by the way.

Nano-reef.com has alot of info in the lighting section. For parts and technical info I would look at ledsuppy.com, nanotuners.com, cutter.com.au/ Hope that helps. If you just want to supplement in some blue look at the cree xr-e's with magwell or buckpuck drivers.(700-1000mah)
