    Default Algae

Hi, im new so hopefully im doing this correctly. I have some starnge algaes growing , been all over the sites mentioned but still cannot figure it out.Starts ou as really fine filiments, but then gets that slimy brown look all over them. Could it be a green algae slime combo? If so why is the slime only on the green filament. Here is a link to the 6 best pics. Any help appreciated.

Ps hope your connection is faster then mine....sheesh

that is not algae, you have cyno bacteria. Looks like algae but is a bacteria that feeds off Nitrates which come from uneaten food or waste. Also having your light on for to many hours can only make it grow faster.

To solve feed less, cut down on lighting, provide more flow, Lots of water changes. Use RO/DI water not tap.

not the right link, and ironically enough, my nitrates dont even test, they show nada, nothing at all. {im guessing the macro in the refugium, thats growing brillantly is eating it up} and I have lighting on less then 8 hours aday. Its odd that it starts out as a fairly tought hairy looking plant, you can pull it off the rock and get a brillo feeling mass in your hand. Later, however, it gets that ugly slimy coat on it. lemme get the correct link to show it all.

++++after I first made this post, my fiance and myself started discussing the fact that my refugium did not grow the same ugly brown coating stuff that the tank did. starting to wonder about my lighting. The light setup and bulbs are less then 3 months old. We have an extreme pro with 3 50/50 snd 3 10ks in them. Thinking about trying out a power compact set to see what happens++++
