Thread: Building a vavarium for Frogs

Default Building a vavarium for Frogs

So I took my 4 year old son to the Zoo Keeper when we were up in Austin on the 23rd. He really wanted some fire belly frogs and I just could not say no. Currently they are in a 10 gallon tank and seem very happy but I want to build something nicer. So after talking with the guys over at Gabe’s and getting a lot of advice we are building a vavarium. This is how far we have come so far. The next step is to silicon the PVC and egg crate to the glass. Before I do that I wanted to post these pics to get some input. The idea is to have a water fall in the top right running to the pond on the left side. The back and right side panel will be covered with bark and coconut fiber (dirt). The land bottom will be rock where the water is to run and coconut fiber to the sides of the rock.

Looks god so far Steve .. You will want to cover the front of land area with acrylic and drill holes for water or use that great stuff and also drill holes.. For the water fall use pvc and burn it to shape then line with gravel.. man thats gonna look good.. I cant wait till you do the 48x18x48 ..

right, I am planning on covering the front of the land area with Great Stuff and then drilling several holes. I forgot about the pvc for the waterfall's stream. Thanks for that! And again, thanks for everything Gabe!

What does frog poop look like? Will it stick to the bark parts that are integral (not disposable) to your set up?

What I am trying to say is: It's going to look great! How easy is it going to be to clean it?

Very Cool, I love herps especially frogs and Tort/Turtles. A few years back I had a vivarium with Austrailian White dumpy frogs. Currently have a 30lb Sulcata Tortiose names Lou. I will watch for updates.
