Hi all, I'd love to hear some suggestions on desktops and laptops.

Is there really any difference in reliability between brands now?

I've used Dell mostly in the past with good reliability but have been hosed by them on financing etc. so don't really want to support them anymore.

Consumer Reports mentioned Apple, Compaq, eMachines, and Dell as top 4 for Desktops and Toshiba, Sony, Acer, and Apple top for laptops. All in order starting with most reliable.

I'm not ready to go Apple.

Looking at Toshiba Satellite A505-S6960 Core 2 Duo T6500 and no idea on desktop. Used for office, web, QuickBooks (possibly some higher level software for business later).

Egghead the best place to buy if not from one of the factories?
