Default New to the reef world

Glad I found this site, especially since I live just outside of SA. I have a bc14 up and a running a little over a month now. Did the normal mods to the bc14. I have a false percula, gsp, ten pounds of live rock, media rack, cheato, submersible light and chemipure elite. What is everyones favorite lfs(reef, saltwater) store? Willing to make the trip if the store is worth it.

    Hey Mr. Schertz,

We are fortunate to be blessed with some really great stores here in south Texas. I have many favorites but the ones I highlight are the ones that have invested the most time in mentoring me and educating me on this amazing hobby.

The question is...how soon can you get to Corpus Christi??? lol, just kidding, but my local favorite which is no secret on here because I am a raving fan of Gulf Coast Reef & Aquaculture. They are a MAAST sponsor on here and I think you will benefit greatly from their store because they have the best prices anywhere and have tons of frags for your nano, and NOW THEY ARE CARRYING FISH!!!

In San Antonio, I frequently, pretty much weekly, visit Aquarium Designs...Look for Herschel and Jason (father/son), the owners, and they will take great care of you. I also have been very impressed with Jeremy at Reefs2U.

Check here frequently and, if you like, become really active on MAAST, and you will learn so much and meet some great people!

    Good Luck,

    Michael

    Hi!
I am outside of SA as well and just finished my tour of San Antonio sponsor stores.
I think what store will be the best fit is going to depend on what you are looking for.

I enjoyed Gabe's store very much. He has a lot of the dry goods I want (Salifert Test Kits and Tropic Marin Salt, etc.) so I foresee I will have to send my husband over there (he works 'in town' at Lackland) on occasion... ;) Gabe's very nice. Corals look great. Store is very orderly, etc. Oh and Gabe gives an awesome MAAST Member discount!

Aquarium Designs always have odd stuff I am looking for (including some specialty frozen food, etc. and very nice livestock) and they have very nice customer service as well.

Ed with EdAquatics is a really nice guy too and seems to be the guy that can get you stuff when it comes to out of the ordinary livestock. Call before you go though!

Of course Reefs2U is closest to us (Rolling Oaks Mall area) so you can go there often and I got a beautiful clam from there. I really like their clam tank.

Phenomenal Aquatics didn't have much livestock when I went but they did have a lot of very affordable liverock - and a Lego table for kids!

Alamo Aquatics has been around for a long time. I bought my first skimmer there 10 years ago I think. Good Selection too.

Welcome to MAAST. You will find great people and knowledge here. I'm acquiring a Bio Cube 14 so interested in hearing your mods. Feel free to post them on my thread. Every sponsor LFS has a wealth of knowledge and good selection. If I had to pick one, reefs2u.com has the nicest selection and prices of all. Can't say enough good things about all of them though. You will find certain items better at each store so try them all.
