Anyone have a recommendation on which is the best controller?

Opinions will vary with as many controllers that are out there. I use an Aquacontroller Jr and love it. It is moderately priced and affordable to just about everyone. I got mine from a fellow reefer in Dallas. You can find these fairly easily. It does not have all the "bells and whistles" of the more expensive ones but does everything I need.
