calcium supplments??

well i have been looking into buying sometype of calcium deal as im about to run out of mine (Figi GOLD) i know some people dont like it but my tank has been fine with it ....

i have been talking to maast members and stores and the most common response i get is why dont i just make it or B-ionic

any other input ???

if any one wants to get together make it i would be in for this .... we just need to split the cost or something


oh yea the bad deal with me is that i dont test for the life of me so this might be an issue

honestly i dont know were my levels are i bought a calcium tester about 10 months ago and used it 3 times testing 440- 420-460 ever since than i have not tested

my problem is that i don't remember to dose even when i try to


i did see some cool dosing pumps that gary (g-ray) had that i might look into but that's after x-mas time when i have some extra money


and i don't want to rely on a calcium reactor or something like that+

Seriously, I don't hardly test at all. Just for alk, and ca on occassion. I only check my salinity / sg when doing wc's.

Its a good idea to test and add as your collection grows.

GS, your situation sound alot like mine. I don't test as much as I should. I have used B-ionic for about 5 months now, and have seen a huge increase in growth. From coraline to corals. Only have a few SPS's but they have grown fast. When I do test, everything is gravy. I'm about out of B-Ionic. I too can't afford...or not willing to afford two dosing pumps right now. That would be ideal though. Definitely don't want to mess with a reactor. I am going to attempt to make my own three part though. Would be cheaper than B-Ionic.

Okay this is probably a totally stupid question but here it goes:
If your calcium levels are great before adding calcium supplements and adding the supplement doesn't noticably change the levels then why add calcium supplements?

You would not need to add any supplements as you would throw your tank out of balance.

JT, you don't need to dose every single day, although it will keep your parameters more steady. You could dose weekly if that's all you need. I use it for when my CA and Alk slip out of line with both of my reactors. Works well for me, and is extremely easy.

why are so many scared of a calcium reactor ive been running one for years and no problems , was one of my best investments but maybe thats just me run it with a kalk reactor and no problems

I think price is a big factor. Also people read about meltdowns and think it is a common occurrance. Reactors are great for automation. I am lazyyyyy.
