New to forum, First salty setup.

Well i am new to the salt water side of the hobby. Had fish (cichlids) as a kid growing up. Then about a 10 year hiatus as my family moved overseas and then off to college. Currently have a 150gal cichlid tank.
I have been wanting a saltwater tank for some time now and finally decided to dive right in.

I have been doing countless hours of research in preparation for my new setup. Well I finally have it, and it is all coming together really well.

I plan on doing corals and some fish.

Setup is an Oceanic 92gal corner tank.

Sump is only a 20gal, i would like to have gone a lot bigger here but it is really hard to find a square tank to fit in a triangular hole. Silly corner tanks. At some point I may try and make one specifically for the stand.

Return pump, i cant remember the model number but its a tunze.

Skimmer is a Reef Octopus Extreme Series EXT-200.

Dual Tunze 6055's

Light
Coralife pro 24in 250w MH with dual 24in CF actinic's

Water is all mixed up with water from my nice new RO/DI filter, and oceanic salt.

The tank is currently home to about 100lbs of live rock and about a 1 to 2in sand bed depending where the powerheads have moved the sand.

About 4 days later i get my live rock.


Next day it clears back up really nice.
I have moved the rock around a little since these were taken.

SLOW1, welcome to MAAST & the hobby! It's like a drug and it will keep pulling you further and further down into it's clutches.

I like your tank, and judging by the way your sand has shifted, you seem to have a good amount of flow!

The only advice I'd like to give you is get some good test kits and take it slow. Patience is hard in this hobby, but patience has rarely ever nuked a tank. :-)

I am trying to take in nice and slow and make sure I get it right.

What test kit might you recommend? I have an API one for my fresh water tank but havnt decided what to go with for the salt water tank.

It sure is a year ago we had a 55 gal and a 20 gal. no coral and the cheap damsels. Oh yeah and a condy anemone. Now we have 7 saltwater tanks and 1 freshwater. And only 3 of those tanks are under 75 gals.

I've used API and had problems with it not showing my Nitrate's correctly. I never had a problem with API PH, CA, Alk and Ammonia. But after having thoese bad tests, I switched to all Salifert. They are more expensive, but they are worth it IMO.
