Thread: Skimmer for 700 gal tank?

  1. #1

Default Skimmer for 700 gal tank?

I need to find a skimmer that will work on a 600 gal tank with around 100gal sump. Only one hitch, it cannot be over 31in high in total. I am having a very hard time finding one, anyone have any ideas?

The tank will house 2 small sharks an eel and sting ray. A few corals will be housed in the tank. So it will have a fair amound of bio load.

Any ideas will be great, the tank is already up and running, so before you say "raise the tank a little bit". I would if I could. There is also not alot of room in the sump area, so I might have to get 2 smaller skimmers in place of one monster skimmer.

Try Reefcentral.com , Large Tank Discussion. There alot of big tanks and big idea there. Two Octopus Extreme 300's or 350 pro are an't bad either. The pro's w/ 2 skimmer is that you always have one running just incase the other stop. The con's is you have alot of pumps running at onces which takes alot energy and make alot of heat.
Reefing is just like cooking, all the ingredients have to be just right , except you don't have to bring the water to a BOIL...

There are several brands of skimmers out there that make large low-profile skimmers. They are not cheap.

    Here's one if money isn't a problem...

Wow, little much... Thanks though. Not gonna have SPS so the water doesn't have to be perfect. Plus I am adding a 50 fuge, and a 30-50 gal area to hold a DSB and rubble.

I'll measure mine. It is for a 600g system and is made by Reef Octopus and runs about $700.

Thanks. I am starting to think I will have to go with 2 smaller skimmers, due to space in the sump. Maybe two skimmers rated at around 300-400 Gal. What yall think?
