Tunze Aquawind fan/Spire fan TWIN PROJECT

I did it! took a $75 fan and made my own almost identical and better for half the cost many of you have seen the article on glassbox.com talking about how similar these fans were and in reality they are the same without the bracket and a usb power supply. I did some machine work on some plastic at work drilled and tapped the nylon crew drilled the holes to attach it to the fan for extra support and glued it like they did with the original. I used e120 loctite brand and used the same glue to attach the rubber grip on one side as well similar to what they did on the original as well but different hehe. In my opinion the one I made is much better and not just because I made it hehe. Its getting late I will post pics up tomorrow! I really like this fan because its the ONLY low profile fan out there and very sleek. I payed full price for the first tunze fan and I really did not want to spend that much again so I made a similar version myself.

it is cheaper BUT to make it work on an aquarium as a fan you need tha special bracket.. i dont know where you can find one off the shelf i guess tunze figured that out thats why they charged double..also keep in mind the usb power supply that has to push out 1 amp to work properly the only one I know of other than the one that comes with the tunze is the apple usb power supply..After its all said and done you spending a grand total of:
$20 fan
$8 shipping
$2 usb ext cord female to male
$ebay usb power supply about $15 (apple)/or go factory direct lundy power supply $15 ($18 with shipping)
important bracket $priceless ..lucky for me I have a mill hehe

so in materials shipped you spend right under $50 out the door I only saved about $15 or more if I had to pay shipping from Marinedeopot. But I like to do some diy stuff here and there

if you buy the lundy power apaptor you dont need the usb ext so I got about $45 worth of stuff

in the pic they both look the same, Tunze just got busted, hey most people with tanks can and will DIY just about anything, a little bracket is nothing compare to the things we have done in this hobby, cant believe Tunze is trying this crap.
