Default Ro Unit, 3 stage vs 4 stage

is the fourth resin chamber really necessary? I run chemi pure elite mostly, but sometimes i run phosban in conjunction with seachems matrix or matrix+phosphorous absorber.... I have a fuge and plenty of live rock and sand for extra filteration. Please let me know because I am thinking of purchaseing a higher gpd unit and want to spend my limited funds wisely. I believe I am going to go with the premium reef supply brand. Thanks!

An additional chamber can be used for a few things, most people use them for extra DI resin so you dont have to change it out as often. Im actually considering doing this as I type...

are you counting the ro membrane as a stage, but in Any case I run a 5 stage counting the ro membrane, having the extra carbon filter(gac) helps makes the ro and di filters last longerbi get 13ppm coming out the ro, which keeps the di from working so hard

Russ @ BFS just built me a high volume, high pressure 5 stage that has 2 DI resin chambers. With a TDS of 600+ coming out of the house line, the 2nd chamber is supposed to make a significant difference.

If I understand the question, you're asking if the DI stage is necessary, right?

I think most in this hobby would tell you "yes."

Some of our customers who have very high quality tap water (as in 40 tds tap water) might think differently, but with the average tap water in the US somewhere around 250 ppm, yes, DI is agood idea if you are keeping corals.

I just moved down to Austin from Round Rock. Up in Round Rock, my TDS was about 80. I'm amazed to see in Austin it is about 18-20.

I do have a 5 stage unit, though. Hopefully it will just last longer.
