Some good advice above.
It sounded like the first poster was looking to have someone come to his house/pool to do the training - that's not typically how it works. Usually you do classroom session and pool sessions with other students - as a group - in a pool specified by the dive shop. But I guess if $ is no object you could have an instructor give private lessons at your house/pool as well.
Another good piece of advice someone gave me way back when - after you are certified rent your equipment for some period of time to figure out what sort of equipment is out there and what you like/don't like.
I'll also echo the comment above about taking your classes locally, then taking your certification dives while on a vacation further south in gin clear, warm water. This is a great approach in my opinion. This is eactly what I did when I got my daughter certified.

As compared to our whiskey/guiness waters down in South Texas/ Gulf Coast.then taking your certification dives while on a vacation further south in gin clear, warm water.
I was certified back around 1980 - in a flooded rock quarry in Ohio. Been on several more of those c-dives in quarries with friends. Always thought that was a rediculous way to introduce someone to open water - stick them in a rented wetsuit that doesn't fit right, and have them do their first dive in water that below about 5 feet deep is freezing cold, with vis somewhere between 0 and 10 feet.

Big whorls have little whorls, Which feed on their velocity;
And little whorls have lesser whorls, And so on to viscosity

I did my open water at Medina Lake Dam - YUK! couldn't see 2-3 ft in front of me - old tires & mucky bottom...roar of the Dam...had already snorkled a bunch in Cozumel, so if I could get thru Medina, I knew what was waiting for me! Heard that Medina is still clearer than Canyon Lake tho.
Sean - heard there was some nice diving in the springs there in San Marcos??

Im looking to get certified, where is the best place to go in SA?
Sean
I was NAUI certified many years ago and used to dive several times a year. Somehow I lost my card 20 or more years ago. I guess I need to re-certify. Get is a group rate and I am in.
