Mined Limestone cured in the ocean?
What do you guys think about using limestone live rock in a tank. I'm not advertising but this is a guy i met in the keys and he was offering me this rock for 2.50 a lb. http://www.liverockusa.com/home.html Anyway I was reading on their site and they mine limestone and have had a lot of it in their plot in the ocean for about 10 years. It is full of the algae of the area, which i saw tons of it around there when diving. I just dont know if I'm going to have stability problems since its mined on land, well, i think it is, i guess it could be some ancient dead reef that they got it from but I am not totally sure. Anyway just wanted to know if you guys thought it would be ok. They do have a really nice setup behind the store, they pump water into their holding tanks from the ocean and let it drain right back into the ocean constantly. Thanks a lot!

Sounds a lot like what Tampa Bay Saltwater does and plenty of people use that with great success. Check the TBS forum on RC.
Probably wont get the same amount of life though.

I need to setup a little 50 gallon breeder tank with my old skimmer hooked up to it and just see what life comes out of it, im sure there will be aptasia and some other pests but nothing uncontrollable I hope. I also wanna see what benifical critters I can obtain for my display tank. I already have micro brittle stars, and collinista snails, mini cerith snails, speghitti worms, some bristle worms, but my wrasse killed most of thoes off before he committed suicide. anyway I'm always looking for more snails and cool stuff in there. Does anyone know what kind of sand sifting cucumbers I was finding in the large shallows in the keys? they were dark greenish brown and looked exactly like the cuc's that we buy from flordia over the internet, but I was wondering if these sandsifting ones were different because they constantly were buried. almost every little mangrove sapeling i found i could uproot it and pull 2 or 3 of these suckers out, of course I'd put the mangrove roots back in the soil before I left. I found tons of multi color sponges out there and huge balls of chato with tons of pods and stars in it. Anyway some of the cucumbers were 8-9 inches long! I wish it would have been legal for me to pull some of the mud out of thoes areas for my mangrove fuge with some of the chato and other macro algaes and such. I dont know if they consider that live sand or not. anyway thanks for reading!

It is always good for the enviroment when we farm fish and live rock. Since it is limestone it will be very heavy. Florida liverock became very popular years ago and then it went away/cooled down?
