Yellow Polyps removal

Ok i have a rock (small) that is covered with yellow polps about 25 plus polyps on it. its sitting on a larger rock but the polyps haven't moved there yet the keep sqeezing in where they can on the same rock. I am wondering i heard you can manually remove the polyps without damaging them. I would like to do this and get them onto the bigger rock and give some away as well. has anybody done this or got a link showing how to lift them off the rock? The rock is too small to frag so i need to remove each button and glue onto another rock. I also have a good sized flower pot coral i would like to frag if that is possible?

Yep, it's called "fragging". try doing a google search for "coral fragging" and you will find all kinds of info.

Get into good habbits and where goggles...they can squirt toxins when bothered and you don't want it in your eye.

The easiest way to move polyps is by cutting the rock with bone cutters or by using a razor blade to slice under the polyp but not actually slicing the polyp. Leathers can be sliced with sharp medical scissors but it needs to be one clean cut so that it can heal quickly.

Super glue gel is what you want to use to attach the rock shavings and polyps to the new piece...let dry for about 5 minutes.

Use a rubberband to attach the leather to a piece of rubble. It has to be loose but secure so it does not move. Remove the rubberband once the coral has attached itself.

Thanks cob i was wondering if you could remove them without cutting the rock in half. goggles razor blade and cut carefully. i know about the super glue lol. easy and works well. i heard you can lift the yellows with a toothpick.

Some polyps do not always attach securely and you may even be able to pull them apart, I like to cut the coral's mat where visible with a blade and then pull off or razor blade off. You do not want to cut any polyps though.

will do i have my wife going and getting an exacto knife i am going to try and cut the rock under the attachment point i will post pics when i am done this rock is so nicely covered and i have a bare rock i want to move some to to start a bigger rock i can cut later.

So i went to frag my yellow polyps or should i say removed them and put them on another rock. So when i lifted my colony they have moved from one rock to the big one i wanted all on there own. so know i have two spots of yellow polyps yeah. diddn't have to do a thing.

the method I use for yellow polyp is to start a siphon and siphon the polyp then cut its base with fine scissors. then super glue them to a rock, put in low flow. If you don't want the polyp to regrow where you cut them you can apply a thick lime water paste to the area with the pumps off. Leave for 30 min then siphon off the death.

thanks for the info everyone but they grew right where i wanted them i was going to remove them to place onto the rock were they have grown on there own so now i have the frag i can give to purtxn for hooking me up with some kenya. love it when corals do the work
