1 x 5.5" Maroon clown (really a large fish) has been treated for almost a week and a half in copper, ready in another week or so. Extraordinarily peaceful. Not sick, but was in a tank with a yellow tang that came into the tank with ich even after quarantine. $25obo.

Never lived with other clowns until a few weeks ago (small white stripe maroon in the same tank starting to look like it's taking the male role), so it's most likely a gigantic juvie moving towards being female. Maroon clowns go from juvie to male to female depending on the hierarchy/size (can't go back though). This clown will become female in the presence of other clowns, though, as it's just so unlikely you'll find a bigger one. It eats anything and everything, not a super aggressive feeder, but definitely a hearty eater-- I've fed guppies, ghost shrimp, brine shrimp, bloodworms, mysis shrimp, and pieces of krill-- it eats all frozen foods. Haven't tried dry foods with my saltwater fish, so I don't know about that.

    Thanks!

Females are generally MUCH larger (6" max) and darker than males (usually 2"-3" max). I don't believe the female to male transformation can happen, usually in nature there's a group and the biggest is female, second biggest is male, and all the rest are juvenile. In my researching, I haven't come across any account of female to male. That said, if your fish has never lived long term with other clowns, it may not have "chosen" a sex yet and could become male in the presence of a larger, more dominant fish. Your best chance at breeding might be to pick up a smaller maroon clown to ensure it being the smaller submissive male. However, if your fish has never lived in a social group of maroon clowns it may not have changed sex yet and might be able to pair (not all clowns will pair, even if there are only two in the system).

Your call. If you're dying to breed and want a much higher chance of pairing, get a smaller clown. If you're dying to have a majestic pair of clowns that have the possibility of pairing, get this one.
