Water Quality Test Analysis "Testoff"?

All,

Has there been anyone (or group) of people to run a comparative analysis of the different testing products side by side to see if there really IS a difference? I know people all have their certain testing kits/devices they swear to be heads and shoulders above all else. But has there been any testing by MAAST members to see if there really IS a difference? If so, can you link to the thread?

If not, would anyone be interesting in working together on a weekly test for 8 weeks to see which work the best? I know there are many brands of tests, different types of tests, devices etc. I think if we keep it simplified the first time out it will make it easier to set the procedures in place for further ongoing testing (if anyones interested).

What I propose first is to test 2 first (salinity, Nitrates) with the various kits/devices to see which ones are the most accurate over the test cycle. To do this we need more then one aquarium (3 would be ideal) in which all tests are performed with all the different systems in order to give us the widest data set possible.

If anyones interested, let me know and we can try to work together to come up with the procedures (time of days, minimum hours after H20 change, etc).

I doubt we can do a true blind test, nor is there really a way that I can think of for a control. We would just need 3 or more people willing to not allow preconcieved notions of product "worth" affect the test. Also they need to live semi-close together or be willing to meet someplace in the middle with the water & testing implements. This will allow us to test a wide range of devices/kits without each of us having to shell out a lot of money for multiple kits ourselves.

This has been done fairly recently, i believe Marc Levensen was involved in it. It was fairly thorough. I would need to track down the link.

The biggest issue, to me, is the age of the reagents. Many don't store well, and some of these kits can sit on store shelves for years.
