Sand sifters

I am building a new 125 gallon tank with a 3 compartment 55 gallon refugium. It has a 5 inch deep sand bed on the right side and a 5 inch deep crushed coral bed on the left side. The return pumps are in the center. I intend to use macro on both of the sides with the sand beds. Silt accumulates on both beds and I was wondering, does anyone use sand sifters such as sand stars or snails in their refugium sand beds? Or will copepods clean it up? What is the best method to prevent anaerobic buildup in the deep sand beds?

Nassarious snails and fighting conch, niether will appreciate the crushed coral tho, why not use oolitic in both chambers? More flow will also help keep the 'silt' suspended..

You want anaerobic buildup in a DSB. Also, as Jim suggested, crushed coral can not be used to make a DSB.

Why compartmentalize the Fuge?

Why compartmentalize the Fuge?

It came with 3 chambers. I am just using two for the fuge. So, I should replace the crushed coral with sand then?
