    Default Drilling a tank?

How do you drill a tank for making it reef ready? Does the store selling the tank do it? If the bottom is tempered glass can you still do it?
If I find a cheap tank on CRaig's list can I get it drilled and over-flows put in?

many tanks have tempered bottoms and that means the bottom can not be drilled. imo, the best way to drill a tank and make it reef ready is to drill the back and put in a calfo style overflow. i think that AD and B&B will drill tanks, along with a member or two here and there

I have to agree with ACE. If you buy a tank of craigslist use the calfo style overflow.

You never want to drill glass after it is tempered. If you buy a new tank, the company that makes them can drill the bottom before it is tempered. Once drilled they temper it and finish putting it together.

    Thanks,
I have a 75 gallon with a drilled bottom but did not know if they came that way from the manufacturer or if it was done after the tank was purchased. I love the in tank over-flow and how there is nothing hanging on the back.

As noted above, most tanks have a tempered bottom. If it was drilled, it was likely drilled before tempering.

Buy a tank, and have Ace (hobogato) drill it for you. I love my end mounted Calfo.

Agree with the above, i just had Ace (hobogato) drill my 150 and install a calfo overflow box, which was the only route i could go because of the tempered bottom
