Default Eventful (Sea Turtle) Port A visit

Ran down to the coast with my family on Saturday. We took some time on the way to the ferry to search about for what might be there. I caught a variety of small (1"-2") fish, but didn't recognize most of them as aquarium-type creatures. I did get find nice pipefish. We went to the jetty for some more searching. I didn't have a lot of luck finding specimens for my tank but did see two things I haven't before. While I was searching, a couple of teenagers asked to borrow my dip net to rescue a turtle. I went over to where they were and found a 12" sea turtle on its side in the rocks above the waterline. My net wasn't helpful, but I did get the turtle out of the hole and back into the water. I found about a 4" sea slug in the rocks. We didn't get a good picture of it due to the waves. It was light-brown and cream, almost calico patterned. Does anybody know the species of slugs in the gulf? Would I have been able to keep one that I found?

Anybody good at turtle identification? Is this a Green or Loggerhead?
