    Question Best wavemaker

I'm toying with the idea of buying a wavemaker. All I have ever had were Koralias. I'm thinking Tunze nano wavebox or 1 Vortech. Notice its singular. I can't afford a regular Tunze or 2 Vortechs. Anyone have experience with any of these, and if so, which would you recommend for my set up.

I have a Tunze Nano on my 75, it rocks that tank and it's set to less than half of it's potential. I also have a MP40 on a 5' 158G FOWLR. It moves the water very well, but not enough to really do waves. it does a good random flow though.

On that length of tank I think that your wave cycle is going to be awful short if you go with the wave maker. I toyed with the idea and just ended up deciding on the vortech. Actually just finished hooking it up and playing with the modes a few minutes ago. Really love the flow that it puts off on the tank and I only got the MP20 but my tank is only 58 gallons.
If you want a great deal see the dealer I went with in the equipment forum. I'd highly recommend them.

i agree with cliff. the length of the tank is what determines the frequency of the wave. on my 8' tank, the wave cycle is just over one second (i am using a tunze standard size wave box). on your 3' tank, it would be just under 1/2 second. that is pretty fast.

I was like you last month and on the fence between Tunze/Vortech. I went with a single vortech mp40 and haven't regretted it.

Nice 1/2" standing wave on a 4ft tank with a nice backflow across the sand bottom. Even if you can't get the frequency turned down enough for a good wave, the other settings like ReefCrest mode will give you a nice varied flow throughout your tank.
