    Default Sucked through overflow AGAIN!!

Okay so my poor baby hippo tang was sucked into my HOB overflow again last night even with me putting up plastic mesh. This time he got stuck in my gurgle buster and I thought that he was dead for sure but much to my surprise when I dumped him back in the main tank he started swimming and eating right away. I was shocked...he's a hardy little fella!! Well this time he got some scales scraped off on one of this sides. Will these grow back or will he always have this battle scar? I now have so much mesh on that overflow box water barely gets through!!!

Be careful about placing screen over that intake,, it is easily clogged and then you have a flood. Keep a good eye on him, a healthy fish should not be able to be sucked up by an intake unless he is being bothered and jumps up there

Yeah he is a small one. As for not being healthy I don't think that's it. He is very active and even playing in the flow of my powerheads during the day. He is eating mysis shrimp really well twice a day and the rest of the day is eating pods off the glass. I also have a algae sheet clipped in here but he's not all that into it yet. I clean/water change my tank once a week so will also clean the mesh then too. I can't see a way that he can get in there now. So do you think he's scales will grow back?

I have a 4 inch blue hippo tank that does not eat the algea clips, he nibbles at the tank algea. It worried me so I looked up info on them. They are mid-water feeders and are one of the tangs that feed mostly on meaty fare. Keep algea available but he may eat very little. Mysis or other shrimps seem to make up the majority of their diet in the wild.

My little blue tang went through the overflow teeth into the sump 3 times the first week. I cut a piece of coarse filter sponge and stuffed it into the overflow box. Worked great and when the sponge got dirty, just rinse it out (don't know if it would work with your HOB overflow). Once he gets a bit bigger and finds a good place to sleep at night , you won't have to worry about it. I have no idea if the scales will grow back. I fattened mine up quickly with varied diet of frozen mysis, Rod's food, hikari small pellets, arctic pods, and cyclopeeze. One good tip I got was to break off a small piece of the algae sheet and rub it between your fingers underwater so it breaks into small bits in the water flow....they seem to go crazy for that. Good luck

I do that to my clown tang doesnt like others to grab some algea so I rub it a little for all to have and my Hippo likes it.
