White stuff on live rock
I'm noticing a white gummy substance growing on my live rock. There is one larger patch about 1" circular, and several small patches on various rocks (pinky nail size).
I know that the LR I bought had some orange, red, and black sponge on it. Is there white sponge as well or is this something I need to worry about? The colored sponge doesn't appear to be growing much, but the white stuff seems to be expanding quickly.
Will post pics when I get home tonight.

Yes, there is white sponge and if this is growing on the backs or undersides of your LR, then that is probably what you are dealing with. Need photo to say for certain.

I always wondered if this was a good thing?

Yeah, my understanding is that sponge is a very good thing for its natural filtration properties. Certainly doesn't hurt anything.
