sponge?

I picked up a rock a few days ago and noticed that there was some kind of sponge like thing on it. It has a head like a mushroom/toadstool. I've been googling it and searching reefcentral but I can't seem to find anything.

Yesterday the most curious thing happened. The sponge sprouted a bunch of green shoots on the head part. The whole thing is white and spongy, and the head is brown colored, but you can't see it when all of these green shoots come out. They retract at the end of the day when the lights go out.

If someone could help me refine my search it would be appreciated. I will be able to post a pic of it later when the camera becomes available.

I know the quality is very poor. Just imagine all of those shoots as vivid green and the rest of the sponge is white and pasty.

Toadstool leather, cool. Mine isn't nearly as pretty as yours though...
