Thread: New tank is L O U D

    Default New tank is L O U D

    OK....

I'm taking a deep breath here as I write this out. I just got a new-to-me 75 gallon oceanic tank. It has the overflow built into the tank in the back on the left side. Looking down into the overflow I have a long plastic tube that has holes all over it and also has a small black filter on its base. It seems no matter what I do, it is always so FREAKIN' loud. I mean, no matter what you stick down there, it still stays loud.

I will think of something new and try it out then go sit down on the couch thinking I've reached success and then......someone flushes what sounds like the fishtank toilet and here comes the headache. Surely someone here can help ease my frustration with this by pointing me in the right direction. I don't currently have a canopy but I'm working on that....

This probably doesn't count as an "emergency" but me bashing my head into the wall a few times due to the noise will probably create one.

    TIA

do a quick search for "diy durso standpipe" and you should get a site that has a pic of what to make with simple pvc parts to make it nice and quiet.

Man. I've been living with my tank being loud. Until I read the above post. Went out and bought the required materials and it's like night and day.
    Great advise guys.

i have the mega flow overflow kit on my neo 90 because I was too lazy to build my own durso again. I will say that my diy durso was waaaayyyy quieter though.

Home Depot or Lowes in the plumbing section. Total part cost is about 5 to 6 bucks if that much. Well worth the cost.
