    Default Magnesium trick is working

After months of scrubbing and pulling bryopsis off my live rock, I began trying the elevated Mg trick......and low and behold, it seems to be working.

I know some members have tried it without success, and I was wondering if y'all were using Kent Tech M or another brand? I was using ESV without luck, but read on RC that the Mg sulfate seems to be key ingredient. So I switched to Tech M and have seen some positive results.

    I tried Tech M - 5 1 gallon bottles of it!

Sorry it didn't work for you. Are you still fighting it, or did you scrap everything and start over? Just wondering, because if this doesn't work, I'm going to tear down the tank and start over.

After reading John's Nuisance Algea thread a few weeks ago, I was afraid I might have a particular specieas that wouldn't be affected either. Like I said, it hasn't been a dramatic decrease like some have reported on RC, but at this point, anything little gain is a positive for me.

I had bryopsis and was successful with Tech M.

I've been reading up quite a bit on vodka dosing and apparently it works well for getting rid of bryopsis.

I tried EVERYTHING in the book - and on the web. I'm thinking I spent like $2K or more, trying to get rid of it. I finally tore the tank down right before Xmas. It's STILL coming back together...

My fault was trying to save a few bucks on live rock from a non-reputable source. Ugh, I wish my flux capacitor wasn't broken on my Delorean or I'd go back and in time and warn myself. Saved about $200 up front on the rock, only to spend double that on salt, tech-m, esv.

I'm assuming you had to completely scrub the tank and equipment when you restarted?

Yeah, I tore the whole thing down. Lost 60 POUNDS of SPS in the process (my fault). I took everything and put it on the deck. Bleached it first (yes, clorox), then wacked it with anhydrous baking soda. The stuff STILL was green on the rocks. Then I took my 55, and turned it into a curing tank. I've been putting rock in every week, 1/3 of the tank at a time, and curing it in that tank. Lots of crabs and snails. 2 fish. After 3 weeks, it goes into the display (215). I'm hoping by May 1 to have all the rock back in. Then I will start adding fish to what's still there, and then more LPS and softies. I'm running a Hiatt, which I"m sure is keeping the bryopsis at bay. I'd guess that this would have taken care of it - but hindsight is 50/50.

Geez......that's a lot of work. Well, my hat's off to you for not giving up and getting out.
