algae in frag tank
Will a tank cycle even if it is connected to an existing system? I recently added a small frag tank to my sump. The water flows from a maxi 1200 into a media reactor and into my frag tank. The tank them dumps the water back into the sump. My frag tank is covered in hair algae. The kind that has bubbles in it and floats to the top in long strands. I have hardly any hair algae in my main tank so why is this happening? Especially since the water flows through carbon and gfo before it gets into the frag tank. My lights are 2 24" t5's that are new and hang 1' above the coral. Will breaking it down and scrubbing it help?

Not sure if this is similar to your problem:
But, I had a separate holding tank that was plumbed very similarly to yours. Long story short......had some hair algea and diatoms in the new holding tank at first. I Didn't break it down, it cleared up on it's own in a few weeks.
I did add a powerhead within the holding tank to increase flow. Not sure if it was a mini cycle or if the powerhead helped.
