    Default Zoo Aquarium Pics

i went to the zoo today and i was very disapointed with there saltwater tanks. they have 3 or 4 SW setups only 1 has coral, with some blue tangs that are messed up. i spoke to an empolyee that was there and she said that the tank started off with some yellow tangs then they added the hippos not knowing how agressive yellows can be, so the hippos got trashed BADLY man you should see these fish in person they look so bad. then other tanks aren't that great either, they don't have any nice aquascape. but here are some pic and sorry for the quailty.

this fish is missing an eye

    here's a different tank

and a pic of the lion fish

Wow, they must have different keepers since the last time I was there.... The reef tank was full of acros and diversity and looked very nice. The people I spoke with seemed very knowledgable, I was actually semi-impressed at how much they knew.. Did you happen to see a very large clam in any of the salt tanks??? Did they give you any reason why the Hippos were still in that tank?? I was going to recommend a donation to a friend but now Im not so sure.... Thanks for this information!

if you go to their website they have an ad about how they remodeled their aquarium and started that africa live section of the zoo, so maybe new people are employeed. and nope i saw no clams or sps. i think the blue tangs stayed in the tank because the yellows where removed. funny thing is there was no yellow tangs in any of the other tanks, and when i asked the girl what happened to them she said she didn't know.

I wonder if we (we being the MAAST organization) could volunteer there at the zoo, to help take care of the saltwater aquariums. We could take turns, and it would be fun to help and get to hang out at the zoo like once a month. We could put up a sign, tanks maintained by MAAST, maybe get to make suggestions on what goes into the tanks, etc. I wonder if there would be some legal issues. Anyone know if they have volunteers at the zoo? Thoughts? -Mike

Love the Grandis, those things get pretty big. Look like cinammons to me. How big were they in diameter?

Mike, and all on this post,

My wife's works at the zoo, I know you can volunteer at the zoo. I'll talk with her about the details for everyone. Though, she has her BS in Marine Biology she's moved to land animals, she loves training.
