Thread: Biocube setup?

  1. #1

    Default Biocube setup?

I'm starting over with my 14g Biocube and curious to know what others with an All-In-One are doing for filtration. This time I want zoas and mushrooms.

I have a 29g oceanic- i don't use the oceanic carbon filter inserts because they clog too easily. I have the oceanic protein skimmer in the first chamber. Then I put a bag of chemi pure elite over the bio balls. All the water runs through or over the bag. Those are the only changes. I have been very happy.

I dont have anything but my Biocube Skimmer. Oops sorry, i also have a foam pad that goes on the third chamber where the return pump is. I plan on adding some activated carbon on the middle chamber.

Chemipure and purigen in chamber 1. Skimmer in chamber 2. Pump in chamber 3. Water level was pretty much to the top in the back. No mechanical filtration at all. Seemed to work well.

I'm doing nothing but live rock, macro and I have a tall sponge filter in the first chamber that I clean every couple of weeks. I also did a DSB.

    Here's more info:

Seems to be working fine so far.

I have the BC29. I took everything out of the back except for the pump and the added heater. I rely purely on the LR in front, flow, and water changes.

Having nothing in the back chambers makes for less and easy cleaning; nothing gets trapped rotting and nothing gets in the way during siphoning. Just fill the back chambers up with water (past the "max" line) to get rid of the waterfall sound.

I add pillow stuffing on top of a tray in chamber 2 after water changes to clear the water faster and then throw it away the next day. I might add chemi-pure elite somewhere back there sometime because I hear wonders about the product.

Chamber 2 could be a nice refugium? sump? for chaeto, but I'm looking for a nice submersible light that can support it.
