How Many Anemones Per Tank?

I've jumped on the clown wagon and have a pair of clowns. I have one rose bubble tip anemone and a long tentical anemone. Both of the clowns seem to be hosting in the rose. The smaller clown just started brushing recently. Neither of them touch the long tentical anemone.

I'm afraid that the clowns will kill the rose if the host simultaniously. I've been thinking that I should get a second bubble tip anemone.

I have a 45 gallon tank. 55 gallon system with sump. Weeky water changes.

Two clowns hosting an anemone at the same time is not a prolem. Actually could be a good thing showing they might be a mated pair.
Fish hosting anemones is not hard on them, that is what is done in nature. What can be problems is for clowns to host things that aren't natural hosts for them in the wild.

Our maroon clown pair have loved an anemone or two to death.... It depends on the size of the fishand the anemone and if it can withstand the contact.

We have a green bubble, red bubble, and long tentacle in our 210g. The clown pair love on all 3, separately and together. Your two might find the long tentacle eventually. - Mike (& Kristy)

I have tomato clowns. The larger one is about 3 inches across. The smaller is about 2.75 inches and thinner. The anemone is about 5 to 6 inches across when fully open.

hello all Sorry to jump in on your thread. I just watched my anemone (bubbletip) move it has moved under a rock cave!! It will get no light here, do you think it will move out from under when it realizes that it is not going to get light there? It is a beautiful anemone (except when deflated) I don't want to loose it. Any info would be appricated. Thanks

Generally, it is recommended that the diameter of the anemone is at least 3 times the length of the fish. Your BTA may be a little too small for the two clowns. Just observe them and separate the clown if it have negative impact on the anemone. You can get a strawberry type basket and put it over the anemone if you need to protect it from the clowns until it grew a little bigger and/or settle in. If the clown seem OK with the fish then don't worry about it. Put another anemone into the tank does not mean that the clowns will be in both.

You should remove the Clarkii or the three Ocellaris. Keep the 4 clowns as is will not end well in a few months. The Clarkii will kill some or all of the Ocellaris.

Usually it is not recommended that you keep host anemones together. They will will have a go at each other and end up killing some or all of them. My recommendation is to keep one species of anemone, and one species of clown together.

What species is your carpet? It in the unlikely event that it is a S. gigantea, then it is a natural host of the both Clarkii and Ocellaris. If it is a S. haddoni then it is not a natural host of Ocellaris.
Assuming that it is a S. haddoni, then none of the three anemone are natural hosts of Ocellaris and all three anemones are natural host of Clarkii. In our aquarium, if there is only one anemone, the clowns will eventually end up going into the anemone. When given multiple choices, then I am sure they will eventually end up going into one of them.

I would leave it alone for now. If it stay there too long, you may want to change the rock structure to put it back out under the light. BTA want to have foot in the crevices and reach out to expose the tentacles to light.
How long have you have the anemone? Sometime BTA move into a crevice and then divided to form two or more clones.
