    Default Aquapod 24 help

    I just picked up a used aquapod 24g and stand but I am looking for some help on a few things.

    1) How should I set up the back chambers? It came with a skimmer that fits in the right hand chamber. Is this the best way to set it up?

    2) How much sand and live rock should I expect to use in this tank?

    Congrats on the purchase of your nano. To answer your questions;

    1. I would use the back chambers to house equipment (skimmer, heater, thermometer, etc). Others turn their rear chambers into a refugium using a small light.

    2. Keep your sand under 1 inch. Too much sand sand causes "nasties" to build up. Rock amounts are personal preference. If I had to put a number on it, depending on density of the rock, I would use between 1 and 2 pounds of live rock.

    Keep us updated.

    I also just purchased a 24 gallon nano. What type, or size should the heater be if I want to put it into the back compartments

    1 or 2 lbs of live rock? is that a joke? I have between 30-40 lbs in my 24g aquapod. Check out my thread to get a visual representation of what that looks like.

    a good way to judge the amount of live rock you need is one to one and a half lbs per gallon.

    The amount of live rock depends on how much other filtration you are going to have, but you are definitely want 20-30 lbs.

    I think Cbianco meant 1-2 lbs per gallon.

    I used Fiji LR in my NC 12g. I have about 26lbs in there but it doesn't look like it because it's so dense.

    Yes, it's a joke. I meant per gallon.

    Hmmm, let's see 1-2 pounds per gallon is 24-36 pounds of LR, right on par with your numbers.

    Glad to see your here to help and not criticize.

    Take it easy maastards!! yeah I am sure chris meant 1-2 per gallon, and that is the general rule of thumb for some decent biological filtration. In fact in a nano, i would say its desired to have at least that if not more because most filtration systems in a nano are mechanical. Difficult to have a fuge or a decent skimmer, so biological filtration is key. Congrats on the new buy and keep us posted, any questions we are here to help

    Thanks for the info ... I do have a sapphire skimmer that goes in the back of the ap24. Should I use this or is there a better way to setup the aquapod? I am thinking about using 30lbs of live sand and about 30lbs of live rock also. I am in no hurry so I am going to add this and let it stabilize for several weeks before I add a CUC. Prolly be three or more months before I even think about my pair of onyx clowns.
