    Default RO/DI,, filter questions

    I have what I guess you would call a 5 stage unit..I have always had some trouble with too much pressure and the filter media deleting too quickly.. I am about to buy new filters for it and and want some Expert input on what might be happening.. I have the following,, a 1 micron prefilter( which i want to change to a 5 or 10 micron), a carbon block, then a GAC filter, then the RO then the DI,, I need the extra carbon because I am high in chlorine.
    The pressure coming in is anywhere from 65 to 80psi.. generally stays right at 65
    ..
    the following are my questions;
    1. should I start with a 5 or 10 micron instead of the 1 micron?, and if I do this do I have to change any of the other filter types to compensate?
    2. should I be looking for a 4:1 ratio of waste to product?
    3. is 65 psi too much pressure and if so how do i reduce it? (it is not due to clogged filters)
    4. New filter recomendations? any deals going on right now that I don't know about?
    Thanks

    On the chlorine subject; I added a corbon media cannister ahead of my water softner. I didnt do it for my fish tank. I did it cause I hate the smell and taste of chlorine in my drinking water.It also makes your water softner and rodi not have to work as hard. $500 well spent. I purchased a kinectico unit cause of the upflow feature. media lasts several years

    All this sounds familiar. Did we talk on the phone this past week?

    Unless you have some specific reason to go with a larger pore size on your sediment filter I would stick with the 1 mic.

    Are you using standard GAC? If so - that really has no place in your system - go with two blocks if you think you need it, but I suspect you do not.

    65 PSI is good - would not think of that as "high." More pressure up to a max of 90 PSI would be even better.

    Yes - you want a ratio somewhere near 4:1.

    When you say you have been going through filters too quickly - do you mean the DI resin? What is your tap water TDS? RO TDS? DI TDS?
