the filter size for that one is a 72mm. all you have to look at is the lens and it will say there.

Don't skimp on your filter or you will turn a great lens into a so so lens really fast. I don't even bother with them on my cheaper lenses, but once I put some real money into lenses for my new camera a good UV filter will pretty much stay on there for protection purposes.

    Happy belated birthday to ya.

Congrats on the new camera and happy belated b-day!

I'm in agreement with brewercm, cheap filters can degrade image quality and the way I look at it is if you're making a serious investment in a nice camera you should either use a good filter or none at all under normal conditions. If you're going to be someplace where you truly need protection you can always attach a cheap filter for protection. For the record I don't use filters for protection purposes but I understand and accept the risk in not doing so.

Re: lens size, it really is a big change if you're used to point and shoots but I'm sure you'll appreciate the fast response time and excellent quality once you get comfortable with the gear.

    Update:

Just Ordered The Canon UV Filter. Working on the "Canon 72mm Circular Polarizer Glass Filter". The least expensive I've found it was for $120 shipped. It's not even a lens. Yikes!!!

OK. I've been Playing with this Camera and I love it. I will wait until I get the UV Filter before I start really playing with it.

I read some great reviews and so I just went ahead and ordered the "HOYA 72MM Circular Polarizer DMC Pro 1 Filter". I can't wait for it to come in.
