    Default 1-Piece Durso

I was buying the plumbing for a tank I am putting together, and I was planning on using a couple of 90 degree elbows for the top of the Durso. Then drilling the hole to let it breathe, etc. But I was at Lowes and saw a "P-Trap with Cleanout". It's basically a nice, rounded, 180 degree U. At the bottom, it has a 1/2" PVC plug that can be un-screwed.

Turn it upside-down, and it is a perfect 1-piece top for a Durso standpipe. I heated an ice pick and put some VERY small holes in the threads, every 1/4-turn. To "tune" it, all I have to do is unscrew the plug. Every 1/4 turn gives a little bit more air flow, until I get it right. If conditions change (like tinkering with the plumbing), I can just screw it in or out a little bit more.

I don't know if it's the smooth inside curve, as compared to using 90 degree elbows, or just coincidence. But it is the quietest and most consistent drain I have ever put together.
