Thread: Public Hunting?

  1. #1

    Default Public Hunting?

I'm getting tired of driving all the way down to the coast to swat ducks, thinking about grabbing my bow and heading out to Amistad but all my hunting buddies have leases or don't bow hunt so nobody to go along with me and the hiking and such is not friendly for my kids until they get a little older. Anybody know of any opportunities a little closer to San Antonio or got any other ideas?

If you want to go to Amistad for a bow hunt and need a partner, I'd certainly consider it. LMK what you are thinking of. I gave up my deer lease this year, but always have an opportunity to rifle hunt on it for does, or a buddy's in South Texas for does (rifle). But bow hunting is WAY more interesting...

They won't let you bow hunt for doe instead of rifle?

I'm looking at making a trip to Amistad maybe the weekend after Thanksgiving...

Can't you bow hunt on Camp Stanley or Camp Bullis if you take a saftey course? I can't remember which one but I took the course about 10 years ago with the intensions of hunting there. I can't remember if I had to have a government employee friend of mine waive the requirements or if a civilian could hunt there.

I'm not sure. I had a buddy that got me to take the class and he was gonna get me on. He is retired Secret Service. I don't know if he was gonna try to pull strings or if it is open to the public after you take the class. I know the class was mandatory.

Secret Service? He was going to put you in his human cloaking device and sneak you on when nobody could see you.
