I have had a total of 3 Square Anthias males in the course of a year and they all passed away within a 1 - 2 month period...unknown reasons. They did not get ick or starve...they just died. I think from depression.
This is by far my favorite fish!
My wife surprised me on Thursday with the largest one I have ever seen over 6inches long...some of you may have seen it at Aquarium Designs. Well by Sunday morning it was dead!!!
I'm thinking it's difficult for these fish to adjust when they are use to schooling in our open oceans.
I will try one more time but will wait until I can afford a school of them. The square Anthias are always so large...I would love to get my hands on much smaller ones with the hopes of a better survival rate.
My last one did not eat at all. Though my wife was told it was eating in the store and she bought the mysis shrimp they said it was eating...but I did not have any luck with him eating it or my other foods. Also he was in a small 30gallon at the store and went to my large 120gal reef...so you would think he would have been happy. :(
Good luck.
