    Default Adding more blue-green chromis?

    Hey, there!

Part of my livestock includes three blue-green chromis (Chromis viridis) in a 140-gal, and I'm interested in enlarging the shoal to six or seven. I'm not worried about biological capacity - the tank's not heavily stocked, and I've got a good skimmer. Can I simply add more chromis to the existing trio, or should I replace the original three with a whole new bunch? I've heard stories of new chromis additions being killed by the original shoal, but I wanted some input from the local gurus.

    Thanks!

I would be interested in this too. I tried adding to my 5 a couple times with no success. I never saw them fight or kill. But the added fish all died but one. I had five originally that still are alive. They came from Blue Zoo. I added one from the LFS and it died. I added two more later from Blue Zoo and one disappeared and the remaining does not interact with the first five. It stays at the top of the water or behind the rocks. I have seen it eat, but it acts like a sick fish does just before it dies. However it has been in this condition for a couple weeks now.

How old is the original group?

If they are as territorial as freshwater African Cichlids, rearranging the tank or leaving the lights off may help. I would not add a single fish - the more that are added reduces the liklihood of a fish being singled out and killed. Adding juveniles may also reduce the risk of them being seen as a threat.

my situation is a little different, but i had 4 smaller green chromi's schooling together and got a free one from a friend that sold me some live rock, it was quite a bit larger than the rest and they all seem to be doing fine....
