My stand only cost about $250, that's wood, molding, stain, finish, and the $140 it cost me to have the doors build professionally. $3000 is way out of line for what you want.

you are looking at about $450 just for materials for that last one i posted. that was a 180, so same footprint as yours i beiieve ( 6' X 2' ). you can expect to pay at least $1200 to have it built by someone - but it should cost no where near $3000. of course, that was all pine and whitewood - not oak. that would drive the price up considerably.
I like the open idea of this one that I have. You can always trim it out more to looks.

Cliff's (Jaded's old stand) is a nice design. I copied it when I did my stand for my 55g. Large front opening to make maintenance a whole lot easier. You just have to engineer the vertical and horizontal supports to carry a larger load with the wider opening.
Cliff,
What size is your tank?

well finally tomorrow i will be traveling to zapata, tx (since home construction and remodifications is about 3 times cheaper than Laredo, TX. where i live) about 50 miles south of Laredo and will be meeting with about 4 differrent guys (contractor, carpenter) and will be getting an estimate of the stand for my tank. then find some here locally from Laredo and compare, then the big decision and to who will i choose to make my stand.... well see what happens. later i will let u guys know about the ideas that i gathered for the stand. since i really don't know how i will try to post up the pictures that i have gathered from differrent stands to come up with mine
