I am thinking of putting t5 in my 125 what is the suggested watts that I should put? Only plan on softies. Does the watts change when you go from mh to t5 or does it need to be the same? thanks any info would be great.

I run 10 39W T5HO (3ft) bulbs on my 180. If your 125 is a standard 6ft long tank, you could run 6x39w or 8x39w. The main thing with T5s is to use a good individual reflector. TEK and Icecap are both good. Most people overdrive the bulbs. Two popular ballasts are Workhorse and Icecap. HTH.

if its a 5' tank and you put 6 X 5' t-5s 3 whites/3 blues you softies and lps would be happy anywhere in the tank (givin the right flow) sps could survive also if located near the light fixtures and with the right flow. good luck

The ones that I am thinking of buying are from an individual they told me that it is a unit that is 8 feet long my tank is 6 ft But it is 8 four foot bulbs I am thinking I can break the unit down and stager the bulbs in there they said that it is 450 watts does this sound like a good idea? They are selling me the unit for 100. Any other suggestions?

I have a 5 ft tank and use 4 ft t5's with individual reflectors. I get good light to the ends. I put sps al least 4 in from the ends. It is working for me.
