If you do a search of threads, you will find a long one on the positives and negatives of them. Most of them are negative, but if you are strapped for cash the might be a way for you to get into the hobby, and test the waters while limiting you investment.

so many mixed reviews might have to buy one n see what happens.
Um... well, I had a pretty good experience with them... knock on wood. I bought a nice 4 foot MH system from them at the end of the summer, and it has worked beautifully so far. Again, knock on wood... I've heard lots of bad things too, but I'd also heard that Odyssea had updated their ballasts to electronic ones in separate chassis on the new models they're currently selling, so I decided to take a chance on them... and once more, I knock on wood!![]()
Oh, yeah - I ordered my light on a Friday, and it arrived the following Monday. Not bad for free shipping! Plus, I found that the Coralife Aqualight Plus/Pro hanging kit fits the Odyssea light I bought like it was made for it... so that was convenient. Just more info for you.
Stayyyyy awayyyy....just so you know, that was supposed to be a creepy "beware"-type voice.
Hope and pray you aren't one of the ones who has a problem. 'Nuff said.
Bought the double 250 watt set up a couple of years ago. Its still running great. You just can't beat the price. So many people spend close to a thousand bucks for the same set up and seem to bash those who get it at a quarter of that. The proof is in the pudding and you will find a bunch of first person accounts that report great results. You will hear alot of " I heard about this one guy" reports being negative. With that said. There was a huge Reef Central thread that pretty much confirmed that aquatraders was selling these 250 watt fixtures with ballast rated for 175. So everyone switched to a 250 watt ballast of their choice...ie. Ice Cap, Coralvue, etc. You still come out around 500 bucks, with like I said, is still much less than other brands with the same specs. Truth be told, the negativity for their lighting setups all stems from the days when they sold the lights with magnetic ballasts. Which were causing problems. You won't see any negative reports with the new electronic ballasts, except for what I mentioned above. Which even underpowered, I was growing tons of SPS.
