are you outside of twc's limits in lockhart?

    my time warner story:

recently called in to add tv service. saw an online special for 79$ (surf n watch is what its called). even said its for existing customers online. so i order online. sales guy calls me to set up time, which is weird since i set the time/date on the website before finalizing the order...

anywho, guy tries to sell me a 120$ package, saying it comes with 2dvrs bla bla bla. i tell him thats irrelevant since i only watch tv in the living room. guy then tries to sell me the 3 combo package? for 95$ a month before taxes. i tell him i have no use for aphone line, cell phones are much handier.

so i decide its not for me, wish him a good day.

i call the 244-0500# to disconnect since im extremely dissatisfied. i know that by threatening to disconnect, theyll hook you up with what you want (within reason). so then we go to verify my last 4 of my social. bzzt. somehow it was changed. girl tells me i need to go into the office to have it changed. i tell her thats unreasonable since im always on the go. then says i should fax it in. i tell her i dont have a fax. so then i grill her about time warners verification policy.

it took about 10 minutes, but i finally got her to admit *time warner has no verification system for your social security number*. they check THEIR system to see if the # you gave them has been in the system before.. thats it.

when i worked for ATT, we queried all 3 major credit scoring companies for verificaton. apparently, time warner doesnt even do that. i told the lady i would be reporting time warner to the BBB and state DA for fraud. im going to let my account expire.

Heard a TWC radio ad today about their "work to keep KSAT on cable" and how it's all KSAT's fault, not theirs like KSAT keeps saying in their on air editorials. It was silly. It's sad, just like their fight with the NFL Network.

Yep. I live a few miles outside of town. I heard a rumor they were going to extend it to my area, but so far it hasn't happened.

Uverse had issues when it first came out and some people base their opinions solely on that. Any new product or service has bugs when it first comes out. I guarantee TWC had troubles when it first ventured into the digital phone business as well, though they probably wouldn't admit it. AT&T actually stopped the wide spread release of Uverse for like a year so they could work out the bugs and correct the equipment issues they were having.

Once my 2 years with Dish is up I will seriously look at them. I'm about to call AT&T to do away with my home phone line that I don't use but try to keep my DSL as they now offer it without having to pay for the phone service.

sorry. i used to work L2 tech support for uverse. i quit for a **** good reason. uverse plain blows. ill list the reasons why:

    1) they oversold it. they DO NOT have the bandwidth, currently or in the past, to push the iptv services they are offering. they drop a digital line from the DSLAM to your NID. the DSLAM to the NOC is analog cabling, NOT fiber. you DO NOT have a fiber line to your house despite ATT saying you do.

    2) uverse voice blows. they oversold this as well. they dont have enough bandwidth to power their iptv services, so they borrow from their DSL/voip lines to push the iptv services. yes, iptv has a priority over voip and internet services

    3) horrible picture quality. again, this stems from lack of bandwidth and inferior cabling.

    4) broadcasting in the improper resolutions. this is solely an ATT issue, and not a broadcast issue. the way the gateway handles the iptv packets distorts and mutilates the picture, resulting in borders all around the picture. you can 'correct' this with the zoom/stretch picture, but it results in an inferior picture.

    5) the gateway. not only is it designed to NOT allow p2p, even with disabling the hardware firewall, it pings home to att ONCE A DAY. even if you do not have an ATT account, i can still access your gateway VIA the MDC with just your router serial number. i am not joking.

    6) the DVR. oh boy this is a world of crap. the DVR has known issues that att cannot resolve. the top one? 'i recorded a program and when i go to play it back, it is black'. this happens because each time the recorded program is played, it must phone home to ATT for a CSS key to decrypt it. there is a hardware flaw that prevents it from happening. what is att's current solution to this? 'play the video multiple times. on the 5th or 6th try, usually positive results are obtained'. this is a flat out LIE. it is a hardware flaw that they have no clue how to fix. motorola has even come out and said so themselves, being the manufacturer of the DVR hardware ATT uses

now, in regards to time warner...

yes, they did have *minor* issues with tv services. occasional distortions was the worst. ive been a time warner customer *since the cable modem service was beta*. i was a cable tv customer when they were known as austin cablevision. they have had nowhere near the issues ATT/Uverse has had. the worst issues were people hacking the .bin files in the routers and uncapping them. this has been mostly resolved, as newer firmware updates in their routers are coded to deny TFTP uploads VIA ethernet.

if you care to debate this further, post a responce detailing why i am wrong.

sorry, in this you are dead wrong. ive been a time warner customer since the cable modem service was beta. google 'time warner bugs' or similar issues. then, compare those results with 'att uverse bugs'.

thats all i have to say on that. time warner has *rare* distortions, and its usually localized to one channel.

there is a reason the call center on bulverde, where ATT and 2wire have their tech support call center, has over a 95% turnover rate. only the security industry has a higher turn over rate than they do... that should tell you something about how they treat their employees...

LOL! not with time warner. in the last year, i guarantee you, youve lost your internet signal at least 10 times, your iptv services have gone completely down at least 5 times, and if you have voip with uverse, youve had to have your VM password reset at least 20times.

oh yeah, caller ID is a known issue with att. meaning, they advertise that they offer caller id, but on about 40% of their customer base, IT DOESNT WORK AT ALL! its the exact same thing as the DVR, as in they have no clue how to fix that either (despite being a frickin telco!).

sorry, even though i hate time warners practices, i would *never* switch to ATT or anyone they partnered with (dish networks for example).

you all remember the secret room ATT let the gov't install right? if not, heres a refresher:
