I have several coworkers in the Houston, Katy, and Orange areas. Sounds like the damage is pretty hit and miss in areas and then devestating in other areas. My grandparents boarded up their home in Rockport and drove up to SA on Thursday in fear it might stay on track towards Corpus. We weren't sure how we would handle it if they had lost their home at their age. I'm very sorry to hear of those who have lost their homes and at the same time very greatful that those people are safe with loved ones.

    Default Texas hurricane help

Being pretty new to the site I was wondering how many here were affected by the hurricanes. I know that many areas still do not have power or water. I am part of a hurricane team with my National Guard unit and must say that IKE has been the worse of the season. Galveston is pretty bad and I have arials of areas that are totally flattened. Looks like a bomb went off and everything is gone. I am still wondering if those who chose to stay will be found. If anything it has been an awsome experience helping so many people, and also seeing the wonderful reception the National Guard has recieved. I hope that things get back to as close to normal as things can get. It has been a rough summer with constant hurricanes, sleeping in trucks, shelters, not being paid enough and pay that is a month late, long days, short nights, and longer drives to different cities. I have put my tank on the backburner to help these wonderful people in south Texas because I truely believe that there are greater things to be done than self gratification. My prayers go out to all those families and other volunteers.
Hopefully my reeftank is still alive when I get home in another week. it has been a rough few months. I really do miss my tank, I mean family.

Here in conroe I lost power for 6 days, I was one of the lucky ones not to have my house hit by a falling tree, I only lost 4 fish, not bad considering some people lost their entire setups. Most of us fared well in H-town but some of us lost quite a bit.
