seeking notebook/laptop

I'm in the mood to purchase a new laptop. I made a sideways trade on a little Dell unit about 8 months back and now it's junk. Not really looking for used as used always seems to come with problems. I'm looking for something in the $5-700 range. Basically just a super fast internet browser and maybe some Itunes media. No gaming, no programming, no music producing, no movie storage etc... Just a big screen, fast upload, probably want a CD/DVDRW to transfer CD's to MP3. A fella at work seems to really like his HP media center he bought a few months back. It's got a remote, TV tuner, and a large screen. Don't know much about HP. The lady wants a Mac but I don't see what spending an extra $800 would actually buy us.

Let me know what laptops in that price range might be good.

i bought the toshiba satellite about 3 months back for 400$ turned out great for what i use it for. i use it for itunes and reading/posting on masst. kids use it to play their little internet games they r 8 and 3
