I also use cooling fans to keep my seahorse tanks between 70-72'. If you are worried about the fan falling in the tank/sump place plastic egg crate over the top of the tank. You can also replace your electrical outlet with a GFCI switch which will cut the power if any water comes in contact with any electrical source i.e. a drop of water on a surge protector. They run about $10 at Home Depot.
