Thread: Algea for Seahorse tank

    Default Algea for Seahorse tank

I am trying to establish some algea in my 8 gallon tank that I will be houseing seahorses in. If anyone in austin has some that they want to sell or are just emptying out there refuge please let me know. I dont want to buy from online stores, but I could be interested in local sellers.

side note, if someone has an interesting leather they want to sell you can pm me about that to, basically I am trying to get things that the seahorses would love to hang on to and not hurt, compete for food.

I have a few pieces of rock that would be great for Seahorses - it is covered with Neomeris. Also have some loose sargassum and calurpa. The tank has been mostly unlit for a while (taking down the tank - but it should bounce back.

(not my pic but to show example)

Hopefully zots AKA dwarf seahorses. When you get the macro algae be sure to give it a fresh water bath. Macro often has hitch hikers on it, such as anemones and hydroids, that can kill SH fry, juvis, or very small SH. If you go to seahorse.org they have a Tank Mates Guide and a entire section dedicated to dwarf seahorses.

ah yeah, 8 ga is ok for dwarfs, and Bill offer you some razor caulerpa, this will be great for the dwarfs, or......oh I see you are in Austin, yeah the drive can be a pita, other option, is there is a local vendor here, Jordan, he has some grape caulerpa, I think it will cost you $10 for shipping.

Also you know that all the online vendors only have wild caught dwarfs right?, so they can be a little difficult to get them to eat something else, but non the least, good luck, dwarfs are the cutes IMHO.

Seahorsesource.com has beautiful captive bred dwarf seahorses. If you don't want to try raising them get only females, otherwise you will have fry in no time.
