    Default coral question

i just bought some more corals for my ever growing colection. i got a very nice and big cup coral, branching hammer coral with 5 heads, candy cane coral with 11 heads, a different type of star polyp, and some red mushrooms. the candy cane and hammer is my first hard coral ever. so i am hoping all will be well.

i am just wondering if i have to feed the hard corals? or will just my 5 gallon water changes (i have a 75 gal) every 4 days do the job of putting what they need back into the water?

    any answers will be appreciated.

    thank's, jesse.

some people do not feed, I am a big fan of feeding. I like the DT's products, both the oyster eggs and the phytoplankton. Also reef nutrition products are good like the rotifers and arctipods. I feed a lot of variety and all the above, but do not overfeed.

True, most corals, stony or not share a symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae (SP?)(zoo-zan-thee-lay) which is an algae that the coral feeds upon. That algae needs light to grow, so feedings are not necessarily dire. BUT, I imagine that if you feed them it probably helps them to grow faster.

I could use a hoborichardpingtexreefbirdstreepguy answer here to help give a better idea. I too could use some schooling here.

Try saying that fast 3 times. Better yet, just try saying that ONE time.

I try to feed lps once a week and no more. It mainly helps w/tissue expansion (at least in my observations). What I have handy is what they get. Usually a small piece of formula 1 or something along those lines.

Most stoney corals get close to 98%(one number I have seen) of there energy from photosynthesis so lights are more important then feeding most of them. I do add DT every now and then but I would be sure not to over do it.

If you send JordanJ (MAAST sponser) a list of your corals, he will reply with a complete list of recommended nutrition products just for your corals. having used DT, reef nutrition, and his products, you will see a visible difference when feeding with Jordan's , MHO

Not sure? But here is one of his online ordering forms. Or, you could PM him.
