Chiller Issues
High all I am having some chiller issues. I have Current Prime Tower 1/4th hp and for the past few months have been unable to use it successfully. I believe it to be a charge issue but was hoping to get some other input. Whenever I have it running it will do so not stop and does not cool the water only makes the fish room an oven. It will run unsuccessfully for hours till it is unplugged and the water temp rises due to the air temp going up due to its nonstop running. I have asked around at a few stores in town and all have said to look here. Does anybody have any ideas its only 7 months old and yes the thermo is reading directly out of the unit. Any help is welcome.

take the cover off and feel the tube that runs from compressor to the heat exchanger that is completely covered with insulation (feel it where it attaches to the compressor while it is running). if this tube is cold, the compressor is working correctly, but if it is room temperature or hot, the compressor is not working correctly and it could be that it needs to be charged with coolant or there is another problem.

what size tank are you running it on?Mine will run for about 2-3 hours before it brings the temp down 2 degrees and mine is on a 110 show with about 140 gal cap total.Temp range is 78-80 Im not to happy with the performance either

Ace is right, that liquid line from the compressor should be ice cold. If it's not, I'd start calling the manufacturer or look at their web site @ current-usa.com. Their warranty runs for 1 year from purchase. You'll need your warranty page from your instructions plus your receipt of purchase. I have their 1/3hp inline model and it handles the temp load pretty well and haven't had any issues (knock on wood).
In the meantime, if the unit is not cooling the water, I'd turn it off since it's only raising the temp anyways.
