The location for Sea World is N NW. Lots of new home construction going on as stated by someone earlier. Alamo Ranch is a very big development with several builders to choose from (i work for one of them). Traffic is less than desireable, but Sea World is close enough that you shouldnt be affected. Schools are actually pretty decent in this area. The cost of living here in SA is very affordable for must classes of income. Shopping areas are abundent, from grocery stores and malls and specialty shops. good luck in your decision.

You guys, I wanted to thank you very much for the information. From my research, the cost of living isn't much different then up here in Stillwater. According to the Census Bureau, it's actually cheaper to live in San Antonio, but I don't trust the actual numbers. I went ahead and applied for the job. After all, the worst that can happen is that they say "no".

Good luck to you on the job. I lived in Altus for about six years back in the late 80's and found the cost of living between most towns and larger cities very comparable to San Antonio. Possibly a little cheaper at Altus at the time and had been to many of the cities in Oklahoma during that stint traveling for HS football games all over. My sister in law is from a suburb of OK City and I loved the farther eastern OK area as the terrain was nicer in my opinion. Do you have any local fish stores there that deal with salt water? We had one in Altus back then that was owned by an old retired AF guy that would bend over backward to get you stuff. Other than that we'd go to Lawton to get a better selection.
I'd recommend you get with BStreep as he can really help you out and is a great guy. Once again good luck and keep us posted.

So good Mexican food has to be expensive? I will tell you how to tell if it's good Mexican food...when you see lot of Mexicans eating there. I would trust their opinion over someone with money, anyday. There are several good Mexican food restaurants here in SA. If you're going to work at Seaworld, then I would move towards that area of town. The prices are not bad and you won't have to do much traveling thru traffic to get home.

And until you've hit some of the smaller hole in the wall places down on the south side you haven't had really good stuff. I grew up on the south side and there are tons of great little family run places, many only open for lunch.

Go to WA. I went to the tri-counties and they had a line wrapped around the building for what they considered mexican food, yeah, it was ummmmm TACO BELL.

I thought I was in hell.

so you'll be working at sea world, cool. look for housing somewhere along the 151 corridor or along 1604 around 151 and culebra. 1604 traffic is stoopid a few miles north of culebra as it is a 2 lane highway most of the way around the northern half of the city but between bandera & culebra...yeah, some idiot left stop lights obviously not thinking about population growth. you should be able to find a decent/nice house for $100-110 or so, perhaps a 3 bedroom too. it's a buyers market after all so take advantage of that. that part of town would put you in the Northside ISD. as stated a few pages back, NISD & NEISD are two of the better school districts here. to set the record straight, Sea World is on the far west side of san antonio. south west would be medina base road & ray ellison drive (avoid that area unless you have a firearm)
northwest would be bandera/braun/IH-10. Simply "westside".....well you'll find out about that when you get here. good luck with the job & potentially "welcome" to SA.
