Skimmer performance Question

I picked up a MSX 250 and it was stated that the footprint would be 16x16, however the sump only allows for a 12x20 footprint. By placing a threaded 3/4" elbow between the pump and the skimmer body, I was able to get it down to 11.5" x 16"
Question: Will this drasticly impeed my skimmer's ability to work well? It will be on the 215 gallon tank with a 20"X40" sump and tied into a 20 tank.

Hi,

Yu may get reduced performace, it is recommended that the pump intakes be pointed down and not sideway's as your pic shows.

I think I can rotate those and still make them fit. Otherwise, will the performance loss be enought to where I will notice it - should I downgrade to the MSX 200?

Folks have had some issues with noise and reduced foam production (less air), you also change the effective skimmer depth so keep that in mind also. Have you went through the "checklist" yet...replace the airline tubing, ensure the reducer is flush, checked the mesh(if restart or noise issue) and ensure the venturi is not pushed in too far(should only be pushed in 2mm-3mm). Not sure the size of your tank but you will not have a problem downsizing to the MSX-200, here is what they are specing these at on RC..first number is for a heavily stocked.
