    Default coral feeding

i was checking out some mushroom corals that i would like in the future. it said that they needed to be fed brine shrimp and or microplnkton. can i just use frozen brine, mix itinto a lil o saltwater from my tank, then squirt it on it? or does it gota b live? i will be adding corals into my tank once i get a skimmer. and i would like some tips on feeding corals. and i know that some only feed on the symbiotic algae zooxanthellai? i think thats how u spell it...

    thanks

I highly doubt you will need to feed your shrooms. Mine are growing like mad, except for the coolest ones, of course.

Ah, I've been looking at the indigo digitata myself. Have you looked at the green hodag's montipora @ liveaquaria.com?

If you haven't got your skimmer yet, don't waste your money on any of those. Your getting the cart ahead of the horse.

I know you're day-dreaming about what your tank could look, but slow it down.

Get that skimmer, let your tank settle down from the substrate change, get your h20 parameters where they need to be, and then try your hand w/LPS. An elegance coral or favia brain coral are both pretty hardy and can handle the abuse.

You really need to start w/large polyp stonies first.

Don't buy into that feeding your coral malarky (especially mushrooms). There are very few, if any, beginner corals that require extra feedings. If you have enough live rock and you have that refugium working, your tank should have plenty of microfauna for your corals and inverts.

Definitely wait for an ATO and skimmer..... Once you get the equipment for the ATO, I can teach you how to dose Kalk... It's very easy and should keep your DKH stable, which keeps your PH stable at night, yadda, yadda, yadda. Once that is stable, and you have a skimmer, it's on like Donkey Kong. The last thing that you will need to upgrade, and you will, will be your lights. Once you get to that point, your tank will be ten thousand times more enjoyable. Just keep your eyes on the prize!

The only mushrooms I've ever had that I could actually see eat were hairy mushrooms. They were huge and when I'd feed the tank I could see them ball up almost like an anemone. I never actually fed them though.

The best thing for your SPS is Calcium and Iodide.....yes Iodide not iodine you can kill your corals if you use iodine.....it's for more advanced aquarists who need to keep their levels at an exact point, as for feeding I feed all my corals Coral vite and Chroma plex they are excellent coral foods and mosty a catch all for most of your soft corals. As for Calcium I use B-ionic.....you can start with a bottle of purple up and then switch to the B-ionic it's slightly cheeper and has a alkalinity buffer as well. Good luck!
