How do you feed your corals? What tool do you use?

How do you go about spot feeding your corals (mainly LPS)? What do you use to get a mysis or anything else to the mouth?

I use disposable pipettes and like the Sea Squirt Feeder by Kent Marine.

You could use a turkey baster, also.

So, let's use the example of a lobo brain. I see 6 mouths. I should defrost a block of mysis. Suck it up into the baster. Reach in a give a little squirt in close proximity to the lobo. The hope that a mysis hits the mouth?

I guess I never saw the need for direct feedings on LPS. Shouldn't a good lighting system and microfauna in a healthy tank take care of that? I've been in and out of the hobby over the years, so can anyone post a link to an article concerning the benefits to direct feedings to LPS? I'd love to see some current thoughts on this topic.

My elegance coral used to inadvertantly catch food during fish feedings, and the tentacles would slowly close in on themselves and move the food to one of its openings.

I agree phrog, it sounds like they're asking you to make a hole-in-one-shot from 300 yards away!

i feed by hand just break or cut shrimp (raw) into six or seven sections and place them by or on the mouth of the coral your feeding ive been doing this for about three years and its worked great cut into smaller pieces depending on the size of your coral . make sure your powerheads and filters are off . i have seven coral tanks 14 all together and i feed everything by hand even my sting ray and scorpion and lionfish good luck i know this method works hope it works for you good luck

I feed fish poop and what a coral can catch on its own. Unless the coral is non-photosynthetic they require very little nutrition beyond good light.

Remember how clean the reefs are and how often a photosynthetic coral will actually catch plankton or something larger.

I am not saying you can not overfeed a coral, just that most extra feeding is unnecessary and adds to pollution in the tank.
